Saxum Energy Partners is a Dallas-based private partnership focused on the acquisition of oil and natural gas minerals. Saxum’s management team has experience operating private and public energy companies and managing energy private equity funds.

Saxum seeks to generate superior risk-adjusted returns for investors by leveraging its operational and acquisition experience to build a portfolio of minerals with strong annualized yields, robust current cash flow, future upside and regular cash distributions. Saxum relies on its technical team, with backgrounds in operations, engineering, geology, accounting and finance, to conservatively underwrite and manage transactions.

Jim Mutrie

Managing Partner

Jim Mutrie serves as Managing Partner of Saxum. Mr. Mutrie has served in executive management roles at operating oil and gas companies and investment vehicles and has extensive industry relationships and transactional experience.

From 2019-2021, Mr. Mutrie co-founded, led, and served on the board of directors of Switchback II Corporation (NYSE: SWBK) until its successful $2.3 billion business combination and Switchback Energy Acquisition Corporation (NYSE: SBE, "Switchback") until its successful $2.4 billion business combination in 2020.

Prior to Switchback, Mr. Mutrie helped lead RSP Permian Inc. (NYSE: RSPP) from 2014 through its merger with Concho Resources Inc. in 2018. At RSP, he led the negotiation and execution of approximately $13 billion in mergers and acquisitions and approximately $6 billion of financings.

Prior to RSP, Mr. Mutrie was at United Surgical Partners International (NASDAQ: USPI) from 2007-2013 and Vinson & Elkins LLP. Mr. Mutrie holds a BA and Certificate in Financial Management from Cornell University and a JD from Northwestern University school of Law.

Cole Robertson

Managing Partner

Cole Robertson serves as Managing Partner of Saxum. Mr. Robertson has fourteen years of investment partnership and private equity experience in energy sector investments that include upstream oil and gas, midstream, downstream, logistics, power, renewables and industrial companies.

In 2014, Mr. Robertson helped launch and served as a managing director at BP Energy Partners, an energy private equity fund where he was responsible for transaction sourcing, due diligence, deal structuring, execution and portfolio company oversight. BP Energy Partners had over $550 million in assets under management as of June 30, 2022, from institutional, family office and high net worth partners.

Prior to helping launch BP Energy Partners, Mr. Robertson spent six years at BP Capital, a large energy focused family office where he was a member of the investment committee. He began his career in 2004 at Ernst & Young where he was a member of the Assurance and Advisory practice. He has a M.S. in Finance and a B.B.A. in Accounting from Texas A&M University and is a Certified Public Accountant in the State of Texas.

Josh Rosinski

Managing Partner

Josh Rosinski serves as Managing Partner of Saxum. Mr. Rosinski has an extensive technical background including drilling, completions, and production operations. He has significant experience in asset valuation for both oil and gas mineral interests and operated properties along with transactional experience in investment banking and corporate mergers and acquisitions.

Mr. Rosinski most recently served as Senior Vice President, Technical for Dale Operating Company where he directed technical underwriting for all mineral acquisitions in the lower 48. Prior to Dale Operating Company, Mr. Rosinski served as Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer of Switchback.

Mr. Rosinski joined RSP in 2014 and served as Vice President of Reservoir Engineering from 2017 through the Concho merger in 2018. At RSP, Mr. Rosinski led the valuation and technical analysis of merger and acquisition opportunities, oversaw the company’s corporate engineering functions, budgeting, and asset development.

Before joining RSP, he served as Vice President of Engineering at Simmons & Co. in the upstream advisory group. Prior to his time at Simmons, Mr. Rosinski managed completion engineering operations for Exco Resources in the East Texas Haynesville. He began his career at Devon Energy where he served in various operational and asset roles in South and East Texas for 7 years. He graduated from Texas A&M University with a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering.

Ross Tipton

VP Geology

Ross Tipton serves as VP Geology at Saxum. Mr. Tipton has extensive exploration and operational experience in the Permian Basin and has evaluated oil and gas operated and mineral packages across the Lower 48.

Mr. Tipton most recently served as VP Geology for FireBird Energy, LLC until is $1.6 billion sale to Diamondback Energy, where he conducted geologic assessments of new drilling targets, evaluated additional acquisitions, and oversaw a 3-rig drilling program.

Prior to FireBird Energy, LLC, Ross served as the Director of Geology at Switchback Energy Acquisition Corp where he evaluated acquisition opportunities across the Lower 48. Prior to Switchback Energy Acquisition Corp, he held various roles with increasing responsibility at RSP Permian, Concho Resources and Apache Corporation. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Madison with a B.S. in Geological Engineering and an additional major in Geology.

Evan Clayton

VP Finance

Evan Clayton serves as VP Finance at Saxum. Mr. Clayton has served in a variety of finance and strategy capacities across private equity funds, portfolio companies, and investment banking with a primary focus on the evaluation and execution of upstream transactions.

Mr. Clayton most recently served as SVP Finance at Dale Operating Company, and as a consultant with Pegasus Resources, where he evaluated mineral and royalty transactions across numerous resource plays.

He previously served as an associate on the investment staff at EnCap Investments, where he focused on deal execution and portfolio management of numerous upstream companies in the operated, non-operated and minerals space. He began his career as an investment banking analyst at Tudor, Pickering, Holt & Co. focusing on M&A advisory in the energy industry. He graduated from Texas A&M University with a B.B.A in Finance and Business Honors.

Alyssa Lawver

Land Administration Manager

Alyssa Lawver serves as the Land Administration Manager at Saxum. Mrs. Lawver has an extensive background in oil and gas land related work that includes land title, division orders, lease negotiation, mineral valuation, and regulatory work.

Mrs. Lawver most recently served as an independent land and division order consultant for several operators and land brokers throughout Oklahoma and Texas, where she coordinated a diverse array of projects involving lease brokering, title curative, division order verifications, and regulatory filings.

Prior to consulting work, Mrs. Lawver served as a Senior Landman at Dakota Land, LLC where she was responsible for running limited mineral ownership reports on prospective mineral investments, as well as various administrative tasks involved in the mineral acquisition and management process. Prior to Dakota Land LLC, she held a progression of different roles at Jackfork Land and Chesapeake Energy. She holds a B.A. in Economics from Pepperdine University.
